Neighbors said the woman is paralyzed and couldn't escape.

Neighbors seeing smoke Tuesday morning ran to the rescue of a woman trapped in her burning home in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Jackson County fire crews were called to the home in the 5200 block of Northwest Downing around 11:45 a.m. to investigate heavy flames coming from the structure.

When they arrived, emergency crews said tall flames were seen coming from three sides and through the roof of the home.

Fire crews tried to make it into the house, only to determine a defensive approach would be best due to the size of the fire.

Just before emergency crews arrived, three neighbors fearing the worst broke down the door of the home and ran inside in search of the woman who lived there.

That woman, they said, is paralyzed.

The neighbors found the woman and pulled her to safety through a window of the home.

There is no word yet on what caused this fire.
